LABORATORIO PASTEUR

Private art gallery, Milan - Italy

For a private collector, we designed a contemporary art gallery that thoughtfully combines three distinct architectural styles around a shared courtyard. The underlying story is about Place: its evolution from the edge of town at the beginning of the 20th century to its current near-central position.

The three architectural expressions are evocative of Milan's past: a charming late 19th-century workshop, distinguished by a large wisteria, alongside a wooden shed/warehouse and functional architecture from the 1950s. Our redesign of the shed and the 1950s building embraced a form of "unconscious rationalism," a defining characteristic of Milanese design in the post-war era. The project thus reunites an urban landscape deeply embedded in the city's collective memory. The gallery showcases both curated solo exhibitions and pieces from the owner’s personal art collection.
