LATTERIA LONDON
A cafe restaurant in Islington, London
Vudafieri-Saverino Partners signs the project for the Italian cafe Latteria in the London district of Islington, inspired by the food, culture and style of Milan.
The two-level, Essex Road venue, welcomes the customers in an eclectic 1950s Milan diner-styled space marked by a young, warm and comfortable atmosphere. Details are the real protagonists that animate the scene: formica tables are ribbed in aluminium frames and zinc service counters are set against a backdrop of glossy red surfaces, chrome, white tiles and exposed bricks. Lacquered pendant lights are modelled off bundt cake tins giving character to the environment and creating a fil rouge in the space. Contrasted to the sparkling ground floor with the semi-open kitchen and the deli counter, the lower floor offers a more cozy and quiet space with a dining room far from the buzz.
Two main colors are used: warm white, that somehow recalls the color of milk, and red, a tone that also distinguishes the external façade, chosen to evoke Milanese elegance.
