#ILOVEMILANO
Platform's publishing initiative on hospitality topic
Claudio Saverino, together with nine other Milan-based architects, took part in Platform's #IloveMIlano editorial initiative.
The design magazine dedicated its December issue to the theme of hosting and involved architects by asking them to talk about the relationship they have with the city of Milan.
They were asked what best represents Milan to them and what vision they have of this city, recounting it in a short text accompanied by a photograph.
THE NEW AS ‘OTHER’
Discussion with a Roman colleague. She accuses Milan of destroying its past by chasing after modernity. I listen with amused interest.
Milan has an obsession with the New: its urban history, and not only that, proves it. The search for ‘contemporaneity’ has always passed through social status, advertising, fashion, design, food... The city has always lived a slow but inexhaustible renewal. The New is an attitude, a propensity. Perhaps this is why Milan attracts many ‘non-Milanese by birth’, who immediately become ‘adopted’. The desire for the new extends to new people, who are welcomed and accepted with interest. And this is one of the aspects I love most about my city.
But I do get nostalgic for the ‘old Milan’ every now and then...
