MATANE' JAPANESE URBAN FOOD
A concept for the new restaurant in Milan
The concept design of the restaurant focused on creating an eclectic ambience of bright colours, patterned furnishings and traditional elements of nippon culture.
In order to create an experience that connects the pop culture of manga with that of traditional cuisine, the project emphasises the typical characters of the design and culture of the Rising Sun. Starting from the atmospheres and streets of Tokyo filled with lights, signs, street food places and chromatic overlays that we find in the wallpapers and multicoloured lamps.
Recalling the Japanese tradition are the light wall bookcases, custom-made: a reinterpretation of fusuma and shoji, panels and sliding doors that delimit the spaces of the typical homes of the Rising Sun.
Colour plays a significant role in defining the space and guides all the interior design choices, from the lighting to the furnishings to the graphics on the walls. Red is used in all its shades for tables, seats, benches and upholstery. Giving an even more pop touch is the use of jeans, a fabric of which Japan boasts a production of excellence, used for cushions and screens.
