LIVING CORE
A future-oriented urban living model in China
Living Core is a proposal project for Chinese co-housing and it is the winner of “My home in 20 years” Award.
Through this concept Vudafieri-Saverino Partners develops a solution that combines sustainable materials and technologies, with new housing demands for the evolving society of our times. The studio choses the most essential elements to furnish the houses with the aim of offering more space, natural elements and a pause from pure functions.
Living Core takes inspiration for its shell from the traditional shape of Chinese houses. The photovoltaic roof is pierced by a glass cone, an ‘aquarium’ for plants, light and recyclable water; it hosts underneath the functional core, a prefabricated unit all-inclusive of fixtures, bathrooms and kitchen and around which rooms develop.
The house is also designed to work in aggregation with other units forming a neighborhood, with public spaces for sociality and working spaces connected to the dwellings. As glass voids are bringing nature and light into the houses, in the same way patios are opened on the urban ground level, creating public gardens and gathering points around which the life of the neighborhood happens. The underground level becomes then a new ground, where find place workshops, offices or commercial spaces and services.
